The Shanagolden Dancers is a group of setdancers from all over the Delaware Valley. The group was founded in 1994 by Fiona Dore-Buckley from Shanagolden, County Limerick. Classes were held in various locations in the South Jersey Area, eventually moving to their current locations in Palmyra and Cherry Hill. Along with classes, Fiona also began holding monthly Set Dance Occasions, featuring the very finest traditional musicians on the East Coast. The musicians have included the McGillian family (John, Jimmy and Kevin), the Brennan family (John and Judy), Billy McComiskey, Danny Flynn, Sean O'Neill, Fintan Malone, Cait Curry, Darcy Fair, Dennis Gormley and many others. We were also fortunate to have a guest drummer from Ireland, the legendary Aidan Vaughan. Although Fiona, along with husband Gerry and children Grainne and Ronan, have returned home to Ireland, the Shanagolden tradition lives on. Classes are held twice weekly. Monday night classes are held at the Cadbury Center in Cherry Hill, N.J. from 8-10 PM. Wednesday night classes are held at the Knights of Columbus in Palmyra, NJ from 7:30-9:30 PM. For information on registration please contact Eileen McCullough at (856)983-7464. The monthly Set Dance Occasion will resume in October at a NEW location! We have been fortunate to acquire the use of the Xavier Hall at 201 Broadway in Westville, NJ. For more information or directions to the monthly occasions, Eileen McCullough at (856)983-7464. October's occasion will be held on Sunday, Oct. 8th at 1:30 PM and will feature the music of Kevin & Jimmy McGillian & friends. HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE THERE FOR A GREAT DAY OF MUSIC AND SET DANCING! |
